With a lifetime’s worth of happy family memories spent on the Connecticut Coast, Karen and Eric wanted their new home, built on the site of Karen’s Grandparent’s beach house, to pay homage to fun family gatherings, warm summer nights, sandy beach days, and boisterous meals together, while creating the foundation for their next chapter: a welcome refuge and a place to invite family and friends. Keeping the past in mind but focused on the future, we used Douglas Fir flooring to clad a hallway wall, and perched a much-loved (and restored) pendant in a vaulted space, both salvaged from the old house, and folded in thoughtful details like custom wave motif tiles from Morocco at the woodstove, dark-clad ceilings in the entry and pool room, and a bar counter to get any party started. The best part? They now live there year-round and they, and their friends, couldn’t be happier.
